While Summit Entertainment has been keen to keep the gap between The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Breaking Dawn as short as humanly possible, with one coming out last November and the next due in July, the two-part adaptation of Breaking Dawn is taking a little longer.
However, it seems the company is now at the stage of looking for directors, and while no one has been hired as yet, EW is reporting that Summit is setting its sights high and going after Academy Award nominated helmers for the final two films in the money-making series. The studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest.
Although none has said they’ll do it, it appears Summit wants someone on board soon, as they’re expecting Melissa Rpsenberg’s detailed script outline next week and plan to make a decision soon after that. If any of these people get the directing job it’d certainly be interesting, as the first two in particular tend to be very personal directors who are likely to look at the story in a different way to the earlier films. They may also have an interesting take on Bella giving birth and the strange half-vampire, half-human child that’s born as a result.
