Here’s the latest casting news coming out of Hollywood…
After its revolving door of actors to play the lead role – which involved the likes of Tom Cruise, Sam Worthington and Charlise Theron, before they settled on Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp – as well as an endless parade of directors coming and going from the project, the romantic thriller The Tourist is now shooting and adding new actors to its cast. Director Florian Henckel Von Donnersmarch has now signed Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell for the movie. The film sees an American tourist (Depp) heading to Italy to mend his broken heart, who gets swept up in whirlind of intrigue and danger after a mysterious woman deliberately crosses his path. The film is currently shooting in Venice. (Source: Variety)
While we’ve known for a while that Hugh Jackman would be taking the lead role in Dreamworks robot boxing movie, Real Steel, the other main role, that of a son the lead character never knew he had, has been up in the air. Now it’s been revealed that 11-year-old Canadian Dakota Goyo has been tapped for the part. He’ll star alongside Jackman, who’ll be a boxer who gets washed out of the sport after robots take over in the ring. He then starts to bond with his son when they work together on a broken, underdog bot that may have what it takes to be a champion. (Source: THR)
For a while now, Jennifer Garner has been attached to a script called Butter, which is partially based on the 2008 Iowa Democratic Caucus that saw Hilary Clinton in competition with Barack Obama, but turns it into a comedy about the fight between a young black orphan and the ambitious wife of the retired reigning champion, to win a small mid-western town’s butter-sculpting championship (don’t ask me, I’m just reporting the news). Now it’s been revealed that not only has The Weinstein Company signed on to make the movie, but that Kate Hudson and Jim Carrey are sniffing around roles in the film. However it’s currently unclear how likely it is the duo will sign up for the film (some are saying they’re both interested, while others suggest Carrey has already passed on the script but Hudson is still interested). Whoever gets the roles, the plan is to start filming in April, with Jim Field Smith behind the camera. (Source: /Film)
Ugly Betty star Christopher Gorham is the latest actor to join the cast of The Ledge. He joins Charlie Hunnam, Terrence Howard, Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson in writer-director Matthew Chapman’s suspense thriller. The film tells the story of a man (Hunnam) standing on a high-rise ledge who insists he must jump by noon as the policeman below (Howard) tries to manage the situation. Gorham will play the distraught man’s roommate, a television editor. (Source: THR)
