With the sequel to Wanted still up in the air – and even more so since Angelina Jolie dropped out a few weeks ago – it seem Russian director Timur Bekmambetov is keen to set up other projects to work on while he finds out if Universal ever wants to return to the world of curving bullets and healing wax baths.
Deadline is reporting the Night Watch director is teaming up with Summit Entertainment – the company behind the vampire and werewolves of Twilight – for something a bit witchy. Summit has bought a pitch from Cory Goodman (Priest) called The Last Witch Hunter, which has Bekmambetov attached to direct and is said to have franchise potential. The main character is one of the last remaining witch hunters, a breed that keeps the population of witches and warlocks in check. They are about to repopulate in a major way unless he can stop them.
The Wiccans had better get their placards out and start protesting, as with this movie, Season Of The Witch and Hensel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, they’re getting a bit of a bad rap in Hollywood at the moment. But then, if they will insist on communing with the Devil (only joking).
