Wanna see the bible in 3D? Well, that’s that plan at the moment as Deadline is reporting that Paramount is working on a film version of the first few chapters of the bible, called In The Beginning, which will be a 3D version of the creation story.
The movie is the brainchild of Cary Granat, who co-founded Walden Media, the company behind The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, whose stated aim is to produce family entertainment that entertains and educates, and also adheres to Christian values. (You can find out more about what Walden’s all about here). He apparently pitched the movie by saying that the story of Adam and Eve had never been made into a feature film on its own – although it was included in the first part of John Huston’s The Bible. Seeing as much of the creation story involves the first two humans running around in the nude, you can understand why Hollywood finds it a little tricky (especially in 3D).
At the moment the movie doesn’t have the greenlight, and a company called Reel FX is putting together some 3D test footage that the people behind the film are hoping will get the movie the go ahead. It’ll be interesting if Paramount does fund this, as in recent years the big studios have generally shied away from directly getting involved movies based directly on The Bible, in case they prove controversial. As this one is likely to fire up the evolution vs. creationism debate once more, the studio could be jumping into the fire pit. I wouldn’t be surprised if the film gets made, but don’t be shocked if Paramount pulls out.
