Only yesterday I was reading about a completely uncorroborated rumour that Ryan Gosling was going to co-star in Steve Carell’s new film. The report seemed to find the whole thing utterly implausible, but it is actually going to happen. Variety confirms Gosling has signed up for the currently untitled comedy, which will shoot while Carell is on hiatus between seasons of The Office.
Not too much is known about the film, although it’s described as having a tone comparable to Love Actually, with Carell playing a father who has a mid-life marital crisis, and whose life unravels as he tries to handle his relationship with his children. Gosling has signed up to play Carell’s suave best friend, who attempts to help him out.
The movie will be directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, the duo behind the upcoming I Love You, Philip Morris, from a script by Dan Fogelman, which Warner Bros. bought a few months ago for an astronomical $2 million.
