The Wolfman may have flopped, but that isn’t going to stop Benicio Del Toro, as Deadline is reporting that he’s just signed up to star in Making Jackie Falcone. The film should take him back towards his comfort zone, as he seemed slightly ill-at-ease in the big budget monster movie.
In Making Jackie Falcone, De Toro will play real-life fed Jack Garcia, a Cuban-born FBI agent, who went undercover and was so convincing the Mafia invited him to become a made man. Garcia’s main problem though was keeping his cover straight, as rather than just being on one case for a long time (as we normally see in undercover agent movies), he would travel around, infiltrating corrupt cops one minute, before posing as a drug dealer the next.
The movie will be produced by Steven Soderbergh, who directed Del Toro in Che, while the screenwriter of that two-part movie, Peter Buchman, will handle the script. As yet there’s no studio attached, because Soderbergh is doing his usual thing of putting all the pieces together before he goes to the money men.
