A few days ago it was announced that Zack Snyder’s upcoming animated flick, The Guardians Of Ga’Hoole, was changing its name to Legend Of The Guardians, largely because nobody who hasn’t read the books the film is based on will know what the hell a Ga’Hoole is supposed to be. And now, with the trailer being released tomorrow (it’s attached to Alice In Wonderland), the very first images from the movie have been released, via USA Today.
The pics suggest that if nothing else, Watchmen director Snyder’s animated film (made by the same company that produced Happy Feet), is going to be beautiful, and full of incredibly realistic computer generated owls. The movie is based on the first three book in Karen Lasky’s series, about Soren, a young barn owl, who is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie’s, which is meant to be an orphanage but actually brainwashes owlets into becoming soldiers. Soren and his new friends escape to the island of Ga’Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie’s.
It’s certainly a different mood for Snyder after the hyper-violent 300 and Watchmen, but with Lasky’s books incorporating real historical info – with battles based on the Normady Invasion, for example – it should give him plenty of scope to pile on the action. Take a look below for some more new images from the film. Legend Of The Guardians hits UK cinemas on October 15th, but we should be posting the first trailer in the next day or two.
