For the last few years Jay Baruchel has built a solid reputation as a comic actor with supporting roles in Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder and Night At The Museum 2, and this year he’s set to really break out with starring parts in She’s Out Of My League, The Sorceror’s Apprentice and How To Train Your Dragon. However it appears he also wants to add writer and director his resume.
He’s previously talked about how he’s writing the hockey flick goon, but now it seems we can add a slasher pic to the mix, which is called Pig. ComingSoon reports that Jay told them a little about the film, saying he had no plans to star in it, but would love to direct the film. Baruchel says, “Without giving too much away, it’s a 21st century reimagining of the slasher film with a lot of socio-racial commentary, that’s all I’ll say.”
Well, I think it’s safe to say he was correct in his assertion that he wasn’t giving much away. It’ll be interesting to see whether it really is a intelligent as he makes it sound, because a lot of directors try to unnecessarily justify their horror flick with intellectual sounding idea, when they’re really about people being murdered. But who knows, maybe the 28-year-old Canadian really is about the redefine the horror movie.
