Here’s the latest smaller stories coming out of Hollywood…
Kevin James has joined Vince Vaughn in Ron Howard’s currently untitled new comedy for Universal (previously known as Your Cheating Heart). After several years being serious with the likes of Cinderella Man, Frost/Nixon and Dan Brown adaptations, it seems Howard wants to get back to the funnies with a film about a man (Vaughn) who is tortured when he sees his best friend’s (James’) wife getting intimate with another man and is wracked with indecision over whether to divulge the secret. Shooting is expected to start in the spring. (Source: Deadline Hollywood)
It’s been announced that Thandie Newton, Jason Isaacs and David Tennant are all attached to star in the psychological thriller, Retreat. Directed by newcomer Carl Tibbetts, the films will follow a couple (Newton and Isaacs) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island. However their peace is shattered when they find a man in military uniform (Tennant) half-dead on their doorstep, who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland. Filming is expected to start in Canada in May. (Souce: Screen Daily)
Hyde Park Entertainment and Parkes/MacDonald Productions have teamed up to buy Kenny Gold’s spec script, Killer. The story is about a rogue policeman who discovers a video left behind by a killer, which triggers a cat and mouse chase as the cop tries to catch up to the murdered. However, while that sounds pretty generic, /Film says that added interest is given to the script by the fact it’s designed to mainly filmed from the POV of a camera held by the policeman, with other footage coming from hidden cameras the killer has placed in the house the the cops are investigating. It is a bit gimmicky but could be rather cool. (Source: Variety)
