Michael Sucsy, the director of the excellent Emmy and Golden Globe winning HBO movie, Grey Gardens, is heading into theatrical territory for his next movie, a true-life tale called The Vow.
The film is based on the story of the newly married Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, whose car was hit from behind by a fast moving truck in 1993. When Kim awoke in the hospital, she’d lost all her memories from the previous two years – which included meeting, falling in love with and marrying her husband – and struggled to rebuild her identity, with her hubby having to try to win her heart for a second time.
Although amnesiac dramas can be very cheesy, Sucsy showed a steady hand on Grey Gardens and so will hopefully resist the urge to dip into too many cliches here. However it’s an interesting premise for a movie.
