Luc Besson may not direct much anymore, but his Europacorp studio has become one of mainland Europe’s highest profile producers of both French and English language movies, with Besson writing and/or producing everything from District 13 and The Transporter to Switchblade Romance and From Paris With Love. Now he’s got a new project up his sleeve – Section 8.
The English-language pic is set in a prison orbiting 50 miles aboce the Earth. It’s insanely isolated location makes it the perfect place to put the world’s most dangerous criminals, who are kept there in a sort of suspended animation. However all hell breaks lookse when they wake up.
The $30 million movie will be made in 3D, with filming scheduled to begin in late spring or early summer. Ireland’s Stephen St. Leger and Matthew Mather (who gained prominence from their technically awesome short film, Prey Alone, which you can watch in full by clicking below) will direct from a script they co-wrote with Besson.
Although the movie sounds a bit like Fortress, hopefully it’ll offer a bit more than that, with Europacorp promising lots of action and special effects.
