According to THR, Robert De Niro is out and Al Pacino is in for the police thriller, Son Of No One. While the project was originally announced with De Niro onboard, it’s currently doing the rounds of the Berlin Film Fesitval, where it’s trying to get distribution deals in place before filming commences next month, with Al Pacino’s name headlining.
The film, written and directed by Dito Montiel (Fighting, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints), is about a young cop who is assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up. But wouldn’t you know it, an old secret surfaces and threatens to destroy his life and family. Quite where Pacino fits into all this isn’t known, although the title suggest paternity may be an issue, which is where Al could step in.
Channing Tatum, who of course worked with Montiel on Fighting, is being sought to play the cop, while negotations are also going on with Terrence Howard, Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes for other roles, although no deals are in place yet.
