After facing endless delays and problems getting his upscoming My Soul To Take made – which has ensured he haven’t seen a new movie from him since Red Eye in 2005 – it seems Wes Craven is back on the market and looking for new projects.
Bloody Disgusting report that Craven is in talks to take the reins of Sunflower, which they desribe as being about ‘a woman on the verge of running away from her life is uprooted when a seemingly straight-faced professor abducts her, forcing to play a part in his twisted world.” It certainly sound slike the sort of project that could do with a Craven figure, to try and turn it into a franchise.
However, what’s less certain is what this means for Scream IV. Although Craven is widely expected to return to the world of the ghost-face killer (the new Scream movie is expected to start shooting in April), he hasn’t officially signed on the dotted line to direct the film. Is Sunflower something he plans to make afterwards? Is it instead of Scream IV? Or is it a ploy to try and get more money on his Scream contract? Who knows, but hopefully we’ll find out soon. Personally, I’m looking forward to the return of Scream, so I hope Sunflower doesn’t mean Craven will leave the franchise behind.
