A few weeks ago we reported that Vin Diesel posted on his Facebook page that he’d seen the first drafts for parts five and six of the Fast & Furious franchise, and was quite excited about the prospects.
However at the time Universal wasn’t saying anything about whether they wanted to make more Fast & Furious movies, but now they’ve stepped forward to give the project the official go-ahead (and why wouldn’t they, as last year’s part 4 was their highest grossing movie of the year).
Variety reports that both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will return for part five, which will see their characters of Dom and Brian as fugitives, being pursued by relentless lawmen. We presume there’ll also be a lot of pimped out cars, and frantic driving, because that’s pretty much why people go to watch these movies.
Justin Lin will once more direct, with filming scheduled to begin later this year, for release in 2011.
At the moment the film is being referred to as Fast Five, which we can only pray is a working title and that they’ll come up with something better by the time the movie’s released. Actually, don’t hold your breath, as Fast & Furious was perhaps the least inspired title for a sequel in history, so Fast Five might stick. Let’s hope not though, as it sounds more like a pimped out Enid Blyton adaptation than an action movie.
