It seems Frankenstein is about to get a reimagining, as Lakeshore Entertentainment has bought a script called I, Frankenstein from Underworld writer/actor, Kevin Grevioux. The screenplay is based on his upcoming graphic novel of the same name.
While Underworld pitted werewolves vs vampire, it seems that I, Frankenstein has a vaguely similar plan for Mary Shelley’s classic monster. The bolted together man will be updated to the modern day and stand as the only thing that can save humanity from an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world.
Patrick Tatapoulous, who was behind the camera on Underworld 3, has been set to direct, with shooting scheduled to begin in July. It certainly seems as if Lakeshore is hoping some of the Underworld success can rub off on I, Frankenstein, as there are already plans in place to turn it into a full blown franchise across multiple platforms if the first film turns out to be a success. It certainly doesn’t sound as if it’ll be like any Frankenstein film we’ve seen before, but it could be rather cool.
