It seems to me that Will Ferrell is on a tipping point,. After huge success with the likes of Elf and Anchorman, in the last couple of years his films haven’t been up to par, with Land Of The Lost, Semi-Pro and Step Brothers all underperforming at the box office (and being crap). He could really do with some hits, and according to Pajiba he’s trying to line one up with I Do: How To get Married and Stay Single.
The film is a remake of a 2006 French Romantic comedy about a 40-something man whose mother and sisters pressure him to get married. As he wants to stay a batchelor, he asks a friends sister if she’ll get engaged to him and then leave him at the altar, just so everyone will leave him alone. It shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone to hear that during all these machinations he falls in love.
It appears they’re pretty early in the production process, with Ferrell’s team currently searching for a writer. It certainly sounds like the sort of project that could work for Ferrell, as long as he can resist the urge to get people to rewrite the script for him and turn the whole movie into something utterly random, which seems to have been the problem with many of his recent flicks. He’d better hope it works, or else he’s going to start going straight-to-DVD pretty soon.
