The headline of this post is slightly misleading, not because Tatum doesn’t want to make the movie, but because Channing has already been a male stripper. In his pre-fame days when he was better known as a model, he also spent a year taking his clothes off for money in order to make ends meet.
He told the Sydney Morning Herald that, “It seemed like a fun thing to do at the time and I got out unscathed. It’s nothing I’m ashamed of and I’m not proud of it either. I wanted to talk about it in the beginning of my career but my publicist wouldn’t let me.
He also reckons the stories he got from that experience would make a good movie, saying that “I’ve already got the director picked out. I’d like Nicolas Refn, who did the movie Bronson, to do it because he’s insane for it… It needs to be a crazy film and I think it’s also possible to do a cute, romantic movie.”
What’s unclear from all this is whether Tatum is just talking pie-in-the-sky ideas here, or if he’s got serious plans for a stripper flick. Saying Refn ‘is insane for it’ suggests the director already knows about the movie, while the rest of what Tatum say make it seem as if it’s purely that he thinks the Bronson director would be a good idea.
Tatum may or may be serious about plans for the film, but we’d imagine there are quite a few people who wouldn’t mind a film in which he played a male stripper.
