Here’s a few titbits on who’s been cast in which films in the last days or so…
Yesterday it was announced that Michael R. Perry was writing the sequel to Paranormal Activity, and now it turns out there’s also a bit of movement on another of his scripts – The Voices. Mark Romanek has been developing the film at Vertigo Entertainment and according to /Film, Ben Stiller is now the top choice for the lead role of Jerry. The film sees a man accidentally kill a woman he works with, and then start taking advice from a cat and a dog on how to cover his tracks.
The script made the 2009 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, so it’s certainly got some momentum behind it and Stiller would seem a strong choice (although they’ll have to change the age of the main character, who is 29 in Perry’s original screenplay). No deal for Stiller has been signed as yet, but he’s the apparently the frontrunner.
Elsewhere in the world of film, Production Weekely has announced that Kate Mara, Eric Balfour and Laz Alonso have been cast in Strause Brothers’ supernatural thriller, Skyline. The movie is about a group of friends who wake up to discover a strange light is invading their house. They realise that aliens are slowly swallowing up the human race (tsk, those pesky aliens), and the survivors must fight to stay alive. The Strause Brothers last movie was AVP: Requiem, which doesn’t exactly instil a lot of confidence in this new project, although as they’re ace at special effects, it should at least look nice. Filming begins next month.
THR has also let it be known that Marcia Gay Harden, Leonor Watling and Aidan Quinn are to play the leads in Joan Carr-Wiggin’s, If I Were You. Gay Harden and Watling will play women who become unlikely friends and help each other fix their troubled lives. The Canadian production starts shooting next month.
