Although Paul Dano could probably have gone very mainstream following Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood, so far he’s largely stuck with indie projects that he’s felt passionate about, while only occassionally hitting Hollywood with Where the Wild Things Are and the upcoming Knight & Day. Now it’s been announced he’s got another indie movie in the works, as he’ll be starring in For Ellen.
Unfortunately this won’t be a 90-minute love-letter to comedienne and chat show host, Ellen Degeneres. Instead For Ellen is about a struggling indie rocker (Dano) who, after nearly crashing his car during an overnight long-distance drive, arrives in a small mid-western town to deal with his impending divorce. No, doesn’t sound very cheery, does it?
Jon Heder will play a supporting role in the movie, which will be written and directed by So Young Kim (In Between Days). For Ellen starts filming next month.
So that that just leaves the question of when someone is going to make a 90-minute love-letter to Ellen Degeneres?
