Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis must have had a good time making the upcoming Dinner For Schmucks, as they’ve already agreed to reteam for a new comedy. They’re attached to Paramount’s Will, which THR describes as being about “An ordinary guy (Rudd) who lives in a world where people’s lives and destinies are being written by scribes in Heaven.
“The man wakes up one day to find that his heavenly writer (Galifianakis) has decided to no longer draft his life, and he must go about his day unscripted, ending up on a journey to fulfill his hidden potential.”
Although these sort of conceptual comedies are incredibly tough to pull off (just look at the mixed reaction Ricky Gervais’ The Invention Of Lying received), recruiting talents like Rudd and Galifianakis is certainly the best way to try and ensure it works.
Also boding well is that directing the film will be Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, the duo behind Little Miss Sunshine (incidentally, it looks like the directors’ Used Guys, which they’ve been working on for a while, has fallen apart due to a ballooning budget).
Although there’s no start date set for the film yet (and with Galifianakis signed up for pretty much every comedy Hollywood is making, it might be a while until he gets around to this one), we’re already pretty intrigued.
