Universal knows a good thing when it sees one, and it seems they’re not about to give up of the Fast & Furious franchise anytime soon. The movies don’t cost a gargantuan amount to make and yet they’ve been consistently high grossers, and as a result it seems two more movies are on the way.
While Vin Diesel walked away from part 2, he had a cameo in part 3 and returned in full force with the rest of the original cast for last year’s Fast & Furious, and it looks like he’ll probably be back for 4 & 5 as well. He’s updated his Facebook page, saying that, “If 2009’s ‘Fast and Furious’ was chapter one, what writer Chris Morgan just delivered is Chapter 2 and chapter 3.
“I have never been submitted a two story saga from a studio before… it is very exciting, and shows a commitment level that is hard not to respond to.
“Excited about the sexy locations the filming of this saga would take us… this novel like story, that has twists and unexpected turns that is authentic, truthful and challenging to the characters.”
Although ‘challenging to the characters’ has never been the Fast & Furious franchise’s forte, it sounds like Vin is up for more car racing action. While some will undoubtedly rile at the news that there’s yet more of these films to come, they are undoubtedly popular, and so it’s unsurprising Universal is pushing for more of them. And as neither Vin Diesel or Paul Walker have had a huge amount of success away from cars, it perhaps not surprising that they seem willing to stick with the franchise.
