James Gunn is certainly lining up a great cast for his Kick-Ass-like superhero movie, Super. Rain Wilson, Liv Tyler, Ellen Page and Kevin Bacon have already been announced for the movie, which is about a guy called Frank (Wilson), whose wife (Tyler) starts cheating on him with a suave drug dealer (Bacon).
As a result Frank goes a little off the rails and suits up as The Crimson Bolt, who has no powers but runs around armed with a wrench. He also picks up a slightly sociopathic, comic book nerd sidekick, Boltie (Page).
Now a slew of new additions to the cast have been announced, via the director’s own website, all of whom Gunn has worked with before, with the most notable being Firefly’s Nathan Fillion (who starred in Gunn’s Slither) and ER’s Linda Cardellini (who played Velma in Scooby Doo, which Gunn wrote). Fillion will play a pop culture icon who inspires Frank to suit up, while Cardellini will be the woman the masked vigiliante ought to love, rather than his two-timing wife.
Other people joining the movie include Greg Henry, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn (James’ brother), Stephen Blackheart, Lloyd Kaufman, Mikaela Hoover and Valentine Miele.
While there are still those who think Super is merely following in the yet to be released Kick-Ass’ footsteps, it certainly sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
