I know a lot of people love the sitcom Arrested Development, but I can’t help thinking that while those people will also probably adore a film version, that doesn’t mean there are enough fans to make it a big success on the silver screen. While it is a great show, Arrested Development struggled on TV (hence why it was cancelled in 2006) and I can’t imagine a more general audience warming to it on the big screen.
However, while there’s been talk of a film ever since the show ended and all sorts of rumours and speculation emerging, we’ve had little concrete information, or indeed a timetable for when the film might arrive. We know they’re working on a script, but there’s been a lot of confusion over exactly what’s happening. For example it’s been said all of the main cast have agreed to appear in the film, but some of them claim not to have heard anything about it.
Now we have a little more information, as MovieWeb caught up with Arrested Development actor Will Arnett, while he was promoting the movie When In Rome. Talking about the Arrested Development movie, Arnett said that, “We’re real close. We’re just finalizing the script and should begin shooting it this year.”
That’ll certainly be good news for fans, although as there’s been so much confusion over the film, while it looks like it’s definitely coming, it’s probably best to wait until it’s officially announced that filming has begun before you hold a party.
