I’m sorry to ruin your Thursday, but Disney has cancelled production on the planned sequel to the 2007 movie Wild Hogs. I know, I don’t know how I’m going to to able to get through the day following that bombshell either, but we’ll just have to muster some Blitz spirit and soldier on.
It seems that new Disney chief Rich Ross is really, really pissed off about the failure of the recent John Travolta and Robin Williams comedy Old Dogs, and doesn’t want to have anything to do with movies in a similar vein. Earlier this week he cancelled Wedding Banned, which would have seen Williams as a father kidnapping his daughter on her wedding day, to prevent her making the same mistakes he did. Now Variety reports that he’s put the kibosh on Wild Hogs 2, so Travolta hasn’t got anything to do either.
While the original Wild Hogs made over $250 million around the world, following Old Dogs it seems Ross doesn’t want to work with Travolta or director Walt Becker (who made both those films) anymore. However while the new management seems to be killing productions left, right and centre and removing anything that isn’t a sure thing (although you’d have thought a sequel to a hit film would have been a no-brainer), the only new thing they’ve announced so far is a remake of The Black Hole. At the moment we may be getting an idea of the sort of films they don’t want, but what are they going to put in its place?
