I think we’ll just have to accept that in a couple of years time, all films will either be about vampires, zombies or superheroes, with a few werewolf flicks chucked in, as no one seems that interested in producing anything else. To add to the long list of bloodsucker movies, THR reports that Paramount is moving up a gear on its plans for an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comic, Damn Nation.
The studio bought the movie right a while ago, but they’ve now set Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz to script the movie. The duo have recently finished working on the Marvel superhero movie, Thor, and they’re also writer/producers of TV’s Fringe, so they’re quite hot right now.
Damn Nation (is it just me, or do you cringe when you hear such a cheesy title?) is set in a world where the US has been evacuated because of an attack by “inhuman nocturnal predators” – AKA vampires – and tells the tale of the survivors after the government has been forced to relocate to London while scientists search for a solution. I suppose it’s only fair us Brits would do that, seeing as the Yanks helped repopulate our capital after the outbreak of the Rage virus in 28 Weeks Later, even if that didn’t go particularly well.
There’s no cast or director attached to Damn Nation as yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Paramount want to get this one going as soon as possible, while bloodsuckers are still popular.
