Adam Sandler seems to like pretending to get married. Only a couple of years ago he got into a fake gay partnership in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and now it appears he’s gearing up for Pretend Wife, where he’ll get a phony significant other of the female persuasion.
THR reports that Columbia is currently developing Pretend Wife as a star vehicle for Sandler, with Dennis Dugan in the lead to be named as the director. Perhaps unsurprisingly Dugan also directed Chuck & Larry (as well as Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, and the upcoming Grown Ups) with Sandler. So does that mean they’re just going to take the script from the film that flopped a couple of years ago and turn Larry into a woman?
Jennifer Aniston is currently is talks to star opposite Sandler in the movie, with the script being handled by Allan Loeb and Tim Dowling. While exact details of the plot are being kept under wraps, the fact it used to be called ‘Holiday In Hawaii’ suggests that maybe we’re dealing with two people faking a honeymoon, and I’d be willing to bet that by the end of the movie they realise they’re actually in love.
The plan is currently to shoot the film next year for release in 2011, although at the moment while Columbia has the script, they’re still trying to lock down all the main players.
