Brad Pitt already has a bit of history with bloodsuckers, having starred in Interview With The Vampire, but now he’s following the current vogue for all thing pale, undead and fanged, by signing up to produce a new vampire movie called Vlad.
With the likes of Twilight having hoovered loads of box office dollars recently, it’s unsurprising that many more bloodsucker tales have been put into the works, however THR reports that Pitt’s planned movie goes back to the grandaddy of vampire tales, Dracula.
That said, this isn’t just a new version of Bram Stoker’s classic, as the script centres on Dracula hundreds of years ago when he was a young prince, who became known to history as Vlad the Impaler. the man behind the myth. Presumably the film will tell us how he came to be a terrible vampire in the first place.
Interestingly, the screenplay was written by actor Charlie Hunnam (Green Street, Nicholas Nickleby, Queer As Folk), although it’s unknown whether he’s also planning to star. Negotiations are already underway with music director Anthony Mandler to helm the project, with Pitt and his Plan B production company partner, Dede Gardner, producing. The film will be brought to the screen by Summit Entertainment, the company behind Twilight.
Apparently while the company has been working on Vlad for a while, they were wowed by Mandler’s showreel and believe he can turn the film into a “visually edgy and radical period movie”. It certainly sounds like it could be one to watch out for.
