With Taylor Lautner’s star having shot through the roof following the success of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, it’s not surprising his agents and managers are plotting how to turn him into a fully fledged movie star, with a range of films under his belt.
The LA Times reports that one possibility is Lautner taking on the role of Max Steel in Paramount’s planned movie version of the Mattel toys. To be honest, we’d imagine there are quite a few people out there who’d like to play with Taylor.
However, the question remains as to whether Paramount is actively seeking Lautner for the role, or if at the moment it’s more that his representatives are jockeying him into position to play Max (which is how it looks, as often newspaper stories like the LA Times one are placed more so an actor’s agents can get a studio to start seeing their client in the role, than because it’s definitely happening).
However with Lautner’s New Moon success making him a very new addition to the ranks of film stars (although he was in Twilight, it was a minor role, and indeed the film’s producer considered recasting the part of Jacob Black between the first and second movie, but once Taylor had bulked up, they decided to keep him), he has a fairly open schedule. He’s completed a role in Garry Marshall’s Valentine’s Day andTwilight: Eclipse has now finished principal photography, but with plans for Breaking Dawn still being ironed out, he’s got some time on his hands, which Max Steel could certainly fill.
However even if he does land the role, he won’t be filming it for a while, as Max Steel, the story of extreme sports enthusiast Joe McGrath, who becomes bionic when he’s accidentally exposed to nano-machines, is still at the early script stage.
