Only a couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Pulitzer prize-winning playwright, David Lindsay-Abaire had been hired by Dreamworks Animation to pen an adaption of William Joyce’s upcoming children’s book series, The Guardians Of Childhood (although the film will just be called The Guardians). Well plans for the CG movie are steaming ahead with Variety reporting that Leonardo Dicaprio has signed up to play Jack Frost in the film.
The plot for the film is about Santa Claus, Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny and the Man in the Moon, who are a kind of a superhero team that are sworn to protect children from the forces of evil. Together they fight an evil spirit named Pitch.
It certainly sounds likes they’re trying to do for these childhood heroes what Shrek did for fairytales, and they’re starting to line up a starry cast to do it. With plenty more big roles in the movie, expect quite a few more star name announcements as The Guardian fills out its roster of heroes and villains.
It’s actually quite good to hear that DiCaprio’s signed up for a children’s movie, as it’ll hopefully give him a break from being in such ridiculously serious movies all the time, and remind us that there’s more to him than a furrowed brow and a lot of fist slamming.
The Guardians is currently ser for a November 12th, 2012 release in the US, and will probably come out at the same time over here.
