So we can cover as many films as possible, we thought we’d give you these quick updates on some of today’s smaller film announcements…
Lost star Harold Perrineau is the latest person added to the cast of the action thriller Hungry Rabbit Jumps. He’ll join Nicolas Cage, January Jones (Mad Men) and Guy Pearce in the film, which is about a high school chemistry teacher (Cage) who gets involved with a dangerous underground vigilante organisation after his wife becomes the victim of a brutal attack. As yet it’s now known what role Perinneau will play. (Source: Variety)
For a while now, Dreamworks Animation has been working on its answer to The Incredibles, Oobermind, about a supervillain (Will Ferrell) who gets depressed after destroying his superhero nemesis (Brad Pitt), and so builds a new rival (Jonah Hill) to challenge him. But when the new hero wants to be a villain, it may be up to its bad guy creator to save the day. However the title of the movie has now officially been changed from Oobermind to Megamind, although there’s no news on why they decided to alter it. To be honest we like Megamind more than Oobermind or the film’s other working title, Master Mind. The film is due out at the end of next year. (Source: /Film)
Vin Diesel has hinted that there’s movement on another Chronicles Of Riddick movie. A while ago he and director David Twohy said that despite the failure of 2004 film, ideas where been knocking around for a return to the cheaper and less OTT thrills of Pitch Black. While it’s not much new news, Diesel has updated his Facebook page, saying that “The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.” Apparently the script is ready, so we may be seeing another Riddick movie very soon. A cinematic version of The Pied Piper Of Hamelin, based on the graphic novel, The Piper, is in the works. Zenescope Entertainment, Persistent Entertainment and Pantry Films have teamed up to develop the movie, which is a darker version of the tale, told through the eyes of a bullied high school student, who unintentionally channels the spirit of the Pied Piper, with terrifying results. Well, if we’ve had horror movies where the tooth fairy was the supernatural villain, why not the Pied Piper of Hamelin? (Source: Variety)
Charles Shyer (Father Of The Bride, Alfie) has signed up to direct the female buddy comedy, BFF. The film will follow childhood best friend who reunite years later in Manhattan. While one has become successful, the other’s life had remained stalled in their small hometown. Somehow I’m not imagining this is going to be the most original of films. No cast has been announced yet for the $20 million flick, although as actors Vanessa Parise and Robin Dunne (Sanctuary)wrote the original screenplay, which is now being reworked, don’t be surprised if they pop up in the film.
