We’ve mentioned before that we might be getting Zombieland and Jackass sequels, and that they were likely to be in 3D. Well, now that news has been confirmed. Variety reports that Sony is currently in the process of making deals to bring all those involved in Zombieland back for a second instalment, while Paramount has already given Jackass 3D the greenlight.
To be honest, these are both franchises that could benefit from a bit of 3D love. As long as they’re inventive with Jackass, it could take the antics of Johnny Knoxville and chums to a whole new level, although vomiting, testicle stapling and the other more scatological things they get up to might be even more disgusting than they were before. The film’s due to start shooting on January 25th, and will be released later in 2010. You can certainly see why Paramount wants to do another Jackass film, as they cost little to make, but have been a big success at cinemas (the first two films grossed 10 times their budget around the world).
The only possible problem is that the heavier 3D cameras would make it more difficult to continue the hand-held style and it’d be difficult to shoot with multiple cameras, leading some to suspect it’ll be shot in 2D and then converted to three-dimensions in post-production. At the moment Paramount won’t say what technolofy the film will use. However they do it, we’re expecting Jackass 3D to be somewhat nauseating.
With Zombieland, deals are already in place for producer Gavin Polone and director Ruben Fleischer to return, while Sony is in talks with the likes of Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg, to get them back for more visceral undead killing action, which should be even more intense in 3D. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working on the sequel’s screenplay, although there’s no timetable been announced for when the film might hit cinemas.
