The videogame world has gone crazy for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and it seems Hollywood has been taking notice too. Although moving from directing videogames to movies doesn’t happen very often, the massive sales of the new Call Of Duty game seem to have been enough to convince people to give Keith Arem a chance.
Arem, who was talent director on the game, was responsible for casting and engineering all the actors in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, including 50 Cent, Barry Pepper, Kevin McKidd, Keith David, Billy Murray and Lance Henriksen. He’s also worked on Ranbow Six, Silent Hill, Guitar Hero and Ghost Recon, amongst others.
Now he’s signed a deal to bring his own script, Frost Road, to the big screen. Variety describes the film as being about “a young man who awakens from a car accident to discover he is one of few survivors in the aftermath of a mysterious outbreak that’s struck a small coast town on the East Coast. Somehow immune to the contagion, he tries to save the remaining survivors as he struggles to prevent the deadly wave from spreading across the planet.” So it’s yet more apocalyptic madness.
So will this be the start of a wave of people moving from videogames to films? We’ve seen vogues for Hollywood loving commercials and music video directors, and more recently a lot of special effects supervisors have been stepping into the directing spot, so maybe now it’s the turn of those people working in videogames to get some Tinsel Town love.
