With My Name Is Earl off the air, Jason Lee has had some time to consider his next move, and it seems he’s been lining up all sorts of projects, including his first film as director, Get Back. The indie flick is about two music obsessed friends who time travel to London in 1966, with one of them getting caught in a love triangle with John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Although it sounds rather bizarre, it does seem like the sort of project that’d fit Lee’s quirky slacker style. However one sticking point may be Yoko Ono, as while you can say what you like about dead people, if you’re making a film about someone who’s still alive, you need to be careful what you do, especially as Yoko has been known to sue if something does something about her or John Lennon that she doesn’t like.
However Lee isn’t putting all his eggs in one basket, as he’s also co-creating and co-producing a live-action skateboarding-based comedy for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim strand. While he may also direct and star in the series, that’ll only happen if nothing comes of his other major project, which is the George Clooney produced TV series, Delta Blues. Lee has been cast in the lead role of the pilot for the show, as Dwight Hendricks, a Memphis police officer who moonlights as Elvis.
It certainly looks like whatever happens, Lee is planning to be a very busy boy. And while these projects gear up, we’ll be able to get our Lee fix with Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 and Kevin Smith’s A Couple Of Cops (AKA A Couple Of Dicks, but they’ve made the title less suggestive), both of which Jason’s already got in the can.
