It’s rare that getting cancer can give your career a boost. Although I’m sure Will Reiser would have preferred never to have got the disease, the Ali G Show producer has seen his Hollywood star rise since he wrote the screenplay I’m With Cancer, a fictionalised comedy about his battle with the disease, which is currently in pre-production, with Seth Rogen attached.
THR reports that Reiser has now been signed up to write Young@Heart, Working Title’s movie adapation of the acclaimed 2007 documentary about a group of senior citizens from Massachusetts, who sing versions of popular rock songs by the likes of the Clash, Coldplay and James Brown, under the direction of their choir master.
It’s a premise that has plenty of potential to make a crowd-pleaser, although there should also be a lot of poignancy, as several member of the aged choir died during the making of the documentary. Personally we reckon it sounds great, as they don’t make enough movies about older people, who seem to have been relegated to the sidelines since the moment Jessica Tandy died.
