Anything that’s even vaguely suggestive of The Hangover is hot in Hollywood right now, and so as soon as someone walked into a studio executive’s office saying they had a “female-oriented Hangover”, the exec probably has an orgasm on the the spot.
That’s how Desperados is being described, which THR reports Universal has just bought from screenwriter Ellen Rapaport, and which is seen as a potential star vehicle for Isla Fisher (and joins the ever-growing list of potential star vehicles she’s attached to, few of which ever seem to materialise).
The film is about a woman who sends an angry e-mail to her new boyfriend, because he seems to be ignoring her. She then realises that his inattention is because he’s in a coma in Mexico, and so she races off south of the border with her friends, to intercept the e-mail before her boyfriend recovers. There’s no news however on how they’re going to get around the fact the the lead character already sounds immensely unsympathetic and neurotic.
The plot echoes a real-life (presumably at least) story of a woman who forgot her boyfriend had gone on holiday and who became increasingly furious ans irrational as the days went by. The man’s recounting of the bizarre tale through a series of e-mails has become a Youtube hit – click below to take a look.
