Director Alexander Payne (Sideways), may have found his leading man for the upcoming movie, The Decendants. Variety reports that Geroge Clooney is in talks for the film, which is based on a novel by Kaui Hart Hemming, and tells the story of a wealthy landowner whose wife is in a coma and about to have her life support swtiched off, and so he takes his two daughters on a search for his wife’s lover in the hopes of keeping his family together and giving the other man a chance to say goodbye.
It’s certainly good news that the project is moving forward, as while Payne announced his intention to shoot the movie a couple of months ago, it still seemed at a relatively early stage, and problems with getting other movies he had planned off the ground, mean he hasn’t made a film in five years (although he does executive produce Hung for HBO). So it really does seem like we may get to see something new from him soon.
Clooney is currently filming Control director Anton Corbijn’s The American, and if he does decide to sign onto The Descendant, he’ll start shooting that in the next few months.
