A while ago, Julia Robert’s production company, Red Om, signed a deal to produce movies through the India-based giant, Reliance Entertainment, and since then they’ve been busy putting a whole string of movies in place. The latest to be announced is an adapation of the high-concept non-fiction book, In The Neighbourhood, by Peter Lovenheim, which Red Om has just bought the screen rights to.
The book, which is due to be published next spring, is about Loveheim’s attempts to build a better suburban neighbourhood by getting to know his neighbours. However he doesn’t just pop round with a pot of jam, he decides to invite himself over for sleepovers. Presumably much hi-jinks happens and Loveheim learns a lot about himself and those around him (although it would be more interesting if he decided that all his neighbours were assholes and it’s good that the suburbs are anonymous).
According to Variety, Roberts is only currently attached to produce the film, although we’re sure they can find a way for her to cameo as one of the people Loveheim meets on his travels, or they could turn the protagonist into a woman (it’s happened before).
However Roberts has already got a lot on her plate, as this is the fifth film she and Red Om have set up with Reliance since signing the deal, none of which have yet gone before the camera. The production comany also has My Mother The Cheerleader, Jesus Henry Christ, Mallory and The Journey of the Destination: The Journals of Dan Eldon at various stages of pre-production, some of which look like they’ll star Roberts and some of which don’t.
