Is Morgan Freeman a Dirty Old Man? That’s the question on everyone’s lips. The reason we ask is because THR reports that Warner Bros has bought a comedy script by Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge, which has Freeman attached to star and which Peter Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates) is eyeing to direct. However while the script once had the excellent working title of Dirty Old Men, it’s now being referred to as an ‘untitled comedy’. So basically Morgan Freeman was a Dirty Old Man when he first agreed to make the movie, but now he isn’t.
We’d imagine that Warner might have immediately seen the difficulty in marketing a Morgan Freeman flick under the title Dirty Old Men and demanded a name change, but in our opinions that’s a great shame. The screenplay is about an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life, however his best friend (to be played by Freeman) realises that nothing will be the same if his mate settles down, so he does everything in his power to split the couple up.
Apparently the tone of the comedy is basically an older-gentlemen version of Wedding Crashers and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which sounds kind of interesting. Unsurprisingly, the studio would like Freeman’s Bucket List co-star Jack Nicholson to joine the movie as the aging playboy, and while the star hasn’t ruled himself out, he’s not currently attached to the movie.
Sounds like it could be fun, especially if they can get Nicholson on board.
