Speculation began quite a while ago over who will host the next Oscars, with most people feeling that after his success with this year’s ceremony, Hugh Jackman would be back doing his lounge singer act and turning the whole event into a more genial, cosy affair than normal.
However he’s now crossed himself off the list, with Variety reporting that while he was offered the job, the Wolverine actor didn’t want to do two Oscars ceremonies in a row and so has turned it down.
That leaves the field wide open for who will be on hosting duties. Although in recent decades the job has tended to go to a comedian or comedy actor, the likes of Jon Stewart and Ellen Degeneres have drawn mixed reviews, which led to them hiring Jackman, who was seen as more of an all-round showman, bringing back some of the fun that Billy Crystal gave the role.
With the ceremony only a few months away (they’re scheduled for March 7th), the Oscar producers has better find somebody fairly soon, particularly as the Golden Globes has already announced that they’ve given their presenting gig to Ricky Gervais.
Anybody got any ideas about who should host?
