Dreamworks sure seems to like our canine companions. Earlier this year they foisted Hotel For Dogs on the world, and now comes new via THR that they’ve bought a pitch by writer Laurie Craig (Ella Enchanted), called Doggy Cay Care.
Before you hyperventilate and worry that this is a sequel to the dreadful Eddie Murphy comedy Daddy Day Care and it’s even worse Cuba Gooding Jr follow-up Daddy Day Camp, it isn’t. However that doesn’t mean that it sounds like it’s going to be good. The movie is described as a comedy about what really happens when dogs get together without human supervision.
If that were true, it would basically be 90 minutes of animals sniffing each others’ asses and humping, but presumably the idea is to reveal that actually they have far more interesting lives as soon as people leave. Although it sounds rather cringe-inducing, dog films are inexplicably popular with Hotel For Dogs costing little to make but grossing over $116 million, while Beverly Hills Chihuahua made over $150 million.
