Although this is a project that it’s easy to see getting stuck in the dvelopment phase, THR reports that Framelight has optioned the film rights to the cult comic, Chi-Chian. Set in a dystopian New York that has become a prefecture of Japan, the fairy tale tinged story is about a seemingly ordinary young woman who becomes a major ass-kicker when she has to fight everything from samurais to robots to zombies in order to protect her loved ones.
Originally created as a comic series by Cuban-American musician Voltaire, Chi-Chian has already shown its ability to morph to other forms, as it’s spawned digital episode for the Sci-Fi Channel and also become a popular role-playing game.
Now Framelight is hoping they can translate that success to the silver screen. The comics could certainly make one hell of a movie, but it’s difficult to know whether Chi-Chian has the brand awareness to convince someone to stump up the cash to make the film properly and create its wonderfully stylised world on the screen.
