Danish director Susanne Bier first came to the movie world’s attention when her melodrama After the Wedding was nominated for a foreign-language Oscar in 2007. She then went on to direct Benicio Del Toro and Halle Berry in Things We Lost In The Fire and is currently working on a movie about a holocaust survivor who meets the twin sister he thought died in the in the concentration camps.
None of those films could exactly be described as jolly, so it’s quite good news that it sounds like she’ll be lightening up with the romantic comedy, Which Brings Me to You. THR reports that Bier is in negotations to direct this modern romance, which is based on the novel by Julianna Baggott and Steve Almond. The book takes the form of a series of letters between Jane and John, whose relationship slowly builds while they use their correspondense to confess the missteps of their pasts (it’s billed as a ‘novel in confessions’). Praised as a clever look at modern relationships, it’s unsurprising a movie version is in the works.
Keith Bunin has written the screenplay for the adapatation, although as yet no cast have been announced.
