While Ryan Reynolds has gone all action-man with the likes of Wolverine, while throwing in a few dramas, The Proposal reminded us that he actually started out in comedies (and I still think Van Wilder is a far better movie that most give it credit for). Now it appears that in-between making comic book movies like Green Lantern and Deadpool, he’ll be putting on a dress for a new giggle-fest.
UK production company Working Title (the guys behind Four Weddings and most of Richard Curtis’ other movies) has won a bidding war to buy a pitch for an as yet untitled comedy, which Allan Loeb will write as a vehicle for the newly a-list star.
The film will feature Reynolds as a guy who gets dumped and then has to disguise himself as a woman and befriend his ex in order to win her back. I’m hoping there’s a bit more to it than that, because that just makes the bloke sound a bit creepy if he’s willing to go to those lengths to get his girlfriend back, and makes her sound stupid, if she doesn’t recognise her boyfriend in drag (but then again, it worked for Mrs Doubtfire).
There’s no news yet on when the film might go into production, but hopefully they’ll find a window in Reynolds’ ever more hectic schedule. (Source: Variety)
