Legendary Pictures, the outfit behind the likes of 300, The Dark Knight and Spike Jonze’s upcoming Where The Wild Things Are has bought the rights of Warren Ellis’ comic book series, Gravel, with an eye to turning it into a movie.
The comics are about William Gravel, a soldier in the British S.A.S. who uses his skills in dark magic to moonlight and battle supernatural beings for clients in order to make some extra cash. So it’s sort of Bond meets Constantine.
Gravel started life as a series of sporadically released graphic novels under the name ‘Strange Kiss’, but the character has grown and has now had several comic series under his own name.
Warren Ellis will pen the first draft of the film script himself, and will also be executive producer on the project. There’s no news yet on when Legendary is hoping to get the movie into cinemas, although Gravel certainly has the potential to make a truly kick-ass movie.
