Relativity Media has picked up a spec script called Rubicon by Ric Roman Waugh and Michael Alan Lerner, with Waugh attached to direct. Variety describes the movie as a contemporary revenge thriller set in a Mexican border town, with THR adding that the plot is female driven. As the word rubicon refers to a decision that takes someone past the point on no return, it’ll be interesting to see what that means for the movie.
Although neither Waugh nor Lerner is a household name, they certainly have a decent pedigree. Waugh started out as a stuntman, working on everything from Lethal Weapon 2 to Total Recall, before moving into writing and directing. Most recently he made the excellent Felon (pictured) starring Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff, which has to be one of the best movies to go straight-to-DVD in the past couple of years. Michael Alan Lerner meanwhile has written a biopic of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, which is currently in the works, and is also working on movie for Tony Scott.
