Noel Clarke really is one of the most interesting up and coming new talents in British cinema. While probably still best known to for playing Rose’s (Billie Piper) friend Mickey Smith in Doctor Who, he hit the film scene hard with his script for 2006’s Kidulthood, which followed a day in the lfie of a group of troubled teens in South London.
He followed that by writing, directing and starring in last year’s excellent sequel, Adulthood, and now Screen International is reporting that his new movie, 4.3.2.1, has just started filming. Clarke is co-directing the heist thriller with Mark Davis. The film is set over three days and follows a group of four girls who are unknowingly connected by a major diamond robbery.
The cast includes Emma Roberts, Ophelia Lovibond, Tamsin Egerton, Shanika Warren Markland, Rosanna Arquette, Adam Deacon, Sean Pertwee and Ben Miller (it’s a bit of a return favour with Miller, as Clarke has just finished starring in his directorial debut, Huge).
The seven week shoot will take in location work in both London and New York, as well as at Pinewood Studios.
It certainly sounds like a more commercial project for Clarke, but if he can bring the same energy and edge that Kidulthood and its sequel had, 4.3.2.1 is definitely one to watch out for.
