Last week it was confirmed that The Weinstein Company were already planning a third instalment in their Halloween reboot series, but Rob Zombie would not be returning as he’s going off to remake The Blob.
While they said they were in talks with a director with horror experience for the new film, they initially declined to say who this was. However Variety has now let slip that the man in talks to helm this 3D horror outing is Patrick Lussier, who’s currently riding a high after the success of My Bloody Valentine 3D.
Lussier is an obvious move for the Weinsteins, as he’s been one of their favoured horror editors ever since Scream, and with his transition to director seeing decent box office, he may be a smart move for Halloween 3D – as long as they want a more generic movie than the ones Rob Zombie has served up.
It was also recently announced that Lussier will be making the revenge flick Drive Angry with Nicolas Cage, although presumably he’ll have to squeeze in writing and directing the horror threequel first, as The Weinstein Company is hoping to get Halloween 3D in cinemas next summer.
