In the same way as happened when DVD was introduced, we’ve been promised that Blu-ray is capable of doing all sorts of things, but few discs are yet using the format’s technical capabilities in particularly interesting ways. However Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has now announced that it’s bringing its MovieIQ feature to the UK, starting with the release of Angels & Demons on Sept 14th and following through with the likes of Terminator: Salvation and others.
Basically MovieIQ links to the Internet so you can get info on the film that you’re watching and bring it up on screen, such as trivia, cast & crew details and all sorts of other bit and pieces. And as it’s Internet-based, it can constantly be kept up to date. It’s quite a neat idea, especially for those, ‘Where have I seen them before?’ moments. Click below to watch a video that’ll tell you a bit more about the technology, and hopefully we’ll let you know what it’s like in practice as soon as we get a Blu-ray featuring MovieIQ.
