Although there’s been a fair amount of scepticism about Oliver Stone returning to the world of Wall Street with the sequel, Money Never Sleeps – not least because of its truncated production schedule and the fact it’s trading on a classic – they’re certainly lining up a decent cast for the film. Michael Douglas is returning as Gordon Gekko and he’ll be joined by Shia LaBeouf and Frank Langella. And now Variety is reporting that Susan Sarandon has officially joined the movie.
As seems to be her lot now, she’ll be playing a mother, this time to Shia LaBeouf’s character. His character is described as a young hotshot Wall Street broker who falls under the influence on Gordon Gekko. However that might not be so bad this time around, as it’s been reported that in the Money Never Sleeps, which is set just before the current financial meltdown, ex-jailbird Gekko is a bit of a reformed character, who’s shunned from the financial community, even though he’s warning about impending economic doom. However it’s difficult to imagine he’ll have completely given up his cutthroat ways.
Filming on the movie is due to start next month, with a release planned for early next year.
