Although there’s already talk about whether the super-hype over Avatar is going to backfire now that nobody can actually see the film for another four months (and also a slightly mixed reaction for those who saw the Avatar day footage), there’s no doubt there was a huge amount of interest in the film last week. Apple has reported that they served over 4 million streams of the trailer when they debuted it last Thursday, shattering the previous record of 1.7 million streams.
However it should be noted that these are just the people who watched it through Apple.com and iTunes, and doesn’t take account of the hundreds of other sources where people could get their first look at the much-anticipated teaser.
Now it just needs to be seen whether Cameron and Fox’s strategy of saturation hype so early can actually keep interest in the film high, or whether people will be bored of Avatar by the time of the film’s release on December 18th.
